This Wasaga Beach cottage lot had a real problem - a steep grade that made the outdoor space almost impossible to use. Great view, terrible yard. The homeowner wanted a proper place to sit, gather, and actually enjoy being next to the water. That meant we needed to solve the grade issue first before anything else could happen.
We built a natural stone retaining wall to hold back the slope and create a flat, usable tier right at the waterline. Once that foundation was in place, we had a solid canvas to work with. From there, we laid out a large flagstone patio using irregular cut stone - fitted and set piece by piece to create a surface that looks natural but sits level and stable.
Flagstone is one of those materials that just belongs near the water. It handles the elements well, it ages gracefully, and it ties into the landscape instead of fighting it. The pattern we laid here gives the patio a relaxed, organic feel that matches the cottage setting without looking forced or overdone.
The end result is a yard that actually works. A level entertaining space with a clear sightline to the water, right where there used to be a sloped patch of ground that nobody could do anything with. That is the kind of difference good hardscape construction makes - it takes a frustrating lot and turns it into the reason you bought the property in the first place.
